  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch its first solar mission Aditya-L1 in 2019. The mission aims to put 1,500-kg heavy class Aditya-L1 satellite into halo orbit around Lagrangian point L1. There are 5 such points between earth and sun namely – L1, L2, L3, L4 and L5. In these orbits, the satellite requires very little energy to maintain its orbit and it will not be eclipsed from the sun.
  • The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched intensive training program for Elected Women Representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions and Master Trainers in New Delhi. It aims to train approximately twenty thousand EWRs covering nearly 50 EWRs from each district by March 2018.
  • The first edition of International Symposium to Promote Innovation & Research in Energy Efficiency (INSPIRE 2017) was held in Jaipur, Rajasthan. It was organized by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) in partnership with World Bank and Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE).
  • Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, from South Africa was crowned Ms. Universe 2017 during the event at The AXIS theatre at Planet Hollywood casino-resort, Las Vegas. The runner-up was Miss Colombia Laura Gonzalez, while the second runner-up was Miss Jamaica, Davina Bennett.
  • Indonesia raised its warning for Bali’s Mount Agung volcano to the top level four alert and closed the holiday island’s airport along with warning residents near the summit to immediately evacuate due to “imminent” risk of a larger eruption.
  • Gopi Thonakal created history by becoming first Indian man to win Asian Marathon Championship, held this year in China.
