  1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 29, 2018 launched 81 projects worth Rs 60000 crore in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. All these 81 projects are part of the 1045 MoUs that were signed at the Uttar Pradesh Investors’ Summit that was held on February 21- 22, 2018. Some of the projects, which were launched on the event, include setting up of fibre or establishment of IT center for internet service in Uttar Pradesh with an aim to give a new direction to the state through such digital infrastructure. The government aims to create around 2.1 lakh jobs in the states through these projects.

Justice BN Srikrishna Committee on July 27, 2018 submitted its report on the data protection law to Union Minister for Electronics and IT, law and justice, Ravi Shankar Prasad. The Bill will apply to processing of personal data within India, including the State. The draft Personal Data Protection Bill, 2018 proposes that critical personal data of Indian citizens shall be processed in centres located within the country.  It recommends for setting up of a Data Protection Authority (DPA) to prevent misuse of personal information and also provides for setting up an Appellate Tribunal.
  3. The National Green Tribunal on July 26, 2018 formed a monitoring committee on the cleaning of the Yamuna River. The tribunal headed by National Green Tribunal (NGT) Chairperson A K Goel directed the committee to develop an action plan on the same and submit it by September 2018 and submit a detailed report on the issue by December 31, 2018. The green panel has appointed retired expert member B S Sajwan and former Delhi chief secretary Shailaja Chandra as members of the committee.
  4. The sub-committee of Drugs Technical Advisory Board (DTAB) has recommended prohibition of 343 fixed drug combinations (FDCs) after reviewing 349 and called for regulation and restriction of remaining six. DTAB is highest statutory decision-making body on technical matters related to drugs in the country . It is constituted as per the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. It is part of Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
  5. The complete draft of the updated National Register of Citizens (NRC), expected step closer to segregating genuine citizens from illegal migrants, will be published on Monday. The complete draft, to decide the fate of 3.29 crore applicants including the 1.9 crore listed in first draft published on December 31, 2017, will be published online.
  6. Looking at the success of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in designing and launching satellites, the Centre has drawn up a five year, ₹8000 core plan to explore the deep recesses of the ocean.  Union Earth Sciences Ministry — tasked with coordinating the exercise — unveiled a blueprint of the ‘Deep Ocean Mission (DOM)’ on Friday. Among the key deliverables to achieve these goals are an offshore desalination plant that will work with tidal energy, and developing a submersible vehicle that can go to a depth of at least 6,000 metres with three people on board.
  7. India Post released a special cover to mark Global Tiger Day at Bandipur in Karnataka on 29 July, 2018. In all, 6,500 covers have been printed, each costing ₹25. The envelopes with a pictorial representation of tigers will be used by the Forest Department for its postal communication.
