Former India captain Rahul Dravid was officially inducted into International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Hall of Fame. With this, Dravid became fifth Indian cricketer after Bishan Singh Bedi (inducted in 2009), Sunil Gavaskar (2009), Kapil Dev (2010) and Anil Kumble (2015) to be named on the elite list. In addition to him Australian legend Ricky Ponting and former England Women’s wicket-keeper Claire Taylor were inducted into the Hall of Fame. The International Cricket Council (ICC) of Dubai on January 2, 2009 launched ICC Hall Of Fame.

Lt Gen P S Rajeshwar took over as 12th Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to Chairman, COSC. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as Director General (Perspective Planning) at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence. During 38 years of his illustrious career, he has commanded Artillery Regiment during Operation Parakram, Infantry Brigade at Line of Control (LoC), and Counter Insurgency Force in J&K and Corps in the desert sector. Integrated Defence Staff was created on 1 October 2001.
The first joint military exercise named “Dharma Guardian” between India and Japan has begun at Indian Army’s Counter-Insurgency Warfare School at Vairengte (Mizoram) with an aim to develop mutual understanding and respect between militaries of both countries, as also facilitate in tracking worldwide phenomenon of terrorism. The emphasis of this exercise will be on building interoperability.
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved agreement between India and Morocco on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters. It aims to increase effectiveness in investigation and prosecution of crime, and in providing the necessary peaceful ambience which is a pre-requisite for the development of society as a whole. It will be instrumental in gaining better inputs and insights in the modus operandi of organised criminals and terrorists.
The Union Cabinet approved renaming of Jharsuguda Airport, Odisha as “Veer Surendra Sai Airport, Jharsuguda” after Veer Surendra Sai who is a well-known freedom fighter of Odisha. He was direct descendant from Madhukar Sai and was legally entitled to be crowned as king of Sambalpur after demise of King Maharaja Sai in 1827. But he was not acceptable to British power and ignored his claim for succession. His revolution against the British commenced from 1827 when he was only 18 years of age to 1864 till he was arrested.
The Union Cabinet approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Korea for strengthening cooperation in the field of Tourism. It will expand bilateral cooperation in tourism sector; increase Exchange of information and data related to tourism; encourage cooperation between tourism stakeholders; establish exchange programmes for cooperation in Human Resources Development; etc.
The Union Cabinet approved for moving a Resolution in the first Assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) for amending the Framework Agreement of the ISA for opening up the ISA membership to all the member countries of the United Nations. Opening the membership of the ISA will put solar energy in global agenda with the universal appeal for developing and deploying solar energy. Expanding membership will lead to ISA initiative benefitting the world at large.
Justices Hemant Gupta, R Subhash Reddy, M R Shah and Ajay Rastogi were on November 2, 2018 sworn-in as the Judges of the Supreme Court. Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi administered oath of office to the four judges. Prior to this elevation, Justice Gupta served as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court; Justice Rastogi as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court; Justice Shah as the incumbent Chief Justice of the Patna High Court; and Justice Reddy as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court. With their elevation, the number of judges at the Supreme Court rose to 28. The sanctioned strength of Supreme Court judges in 31.
